"Goodbye, Word!". Reviews and comments. The curator of the exhibition Taras Tabaka

The curator of the exhibition, an artist Taras Tabaka:

"Speaking about the exhibition, I’ll start with the fact that Transcarpathia, which is allegedly located somewhere on the periphery, is at the same time associated with Ukraine, that is, we perceive ourselves as Ukrainians. But we are in Europe, we live on the border of two worlds. And this peripherally makes it possible to observe the world from the outside. After all, in order to see something great, you need to take a step backward. The process of contemplation through the self, through the collective experience of the self – this is what the exhibition is about.

In general, it is very important that the Transcarpathian traditional school was rebooted. We respect and appreciate everything we have from our predecessors, but we cannot stop here, we cannot steal the glory of that great names. Thus, now we are talking about a new programme based on the old one. It's good that there is a dynamic that has been traced over the last ten years.

The exhibition "Goodbye, Word" is a topic we have been discussing for a long time, and each artist sets a task for himself. It is, in my opinion, beauty in polyphony, because one and the same theme can be expressed in different ways, starting with lyrics and ending with irony and sarcasm. I am glad that the artists responded to the issue and that they are in general interested in such issues, which are quite complex within the cultural philosophy.

In general, there are a lot of words in the world, a lot was said. It is probably worthwhile to miss the words sometimes, to keep quiet and to be alone with yourself, for a viewer – with his emotions, for an artist – with his canvas. The main question is whether art has the right to communicate with the viewer without words on the emotional level.

In general, I’m pleased and grateful to all the people who joined the exhibition so that this exhibition took place, because, in fact, for almost three years, I have been working on the idea of showing Transcarpathia from a different angle. It was achieved and this is important!"
